Make this simple bookmark with our easy bead pattern. And it looks lovely with any beads on any books.
Step by step guide for making an elastic bookmark.
You will need: · Stretch beading elastic · Star shaped red beads · Small round red beads · Small oval cream beads · Medium round silver beads · Clear nail varnish or beading glue
Step 1:
Tie a knot approximately 6cm from the tip of the elastic on one end. Place a drop of clear nail varnish to secure the knot.
Step 2:
Once the nail varnish has dried, begin by placing a round silver bead, a round red bead, an oval bead and a star shaped bead. Follow on with the reverse of an oval bead, a round red bead, a round silver bead.
Step 3:
Repeat this pattern till you get to approximately 6cm from the tip of the elastic on the other end. (Make sure you have enough beaded elastic before proceeding to the next step. Add an extra 2cm at the top and an extra 2cm at the bottom of the book.)
Step 4:
Tie a knot after the last bead and secure with a drop of nail varnish. Allow to dry.
Step 5:
Use a sharp tool to make two holes in the back cover of the book you wish to use. Place the top hole 2cm from the top of the book and 2cm from the right side of the book. The same will apply for the bottom hole.
Feed the elastic into a hole from the outside of the book until the beads meet up with the hole.
Step 6:
Tie a double knot into the elastic, and secure with glue or varnish. Cut off the excess elastic once it has dried.
Step 7:
Feed the elastic into the other hole from the outside of the book until the beads meet up with the hole. Tie a double knot into the elastic, and secure with glue or varnish. Cut off the excess elastic once it has dried.
Step 8:
Close the book, pull the elastic over the front cover and admire your handy work.
Congrats!!! You have successfully completed a stretch bookmark. |
